Real hair extensions are made from human hair and are in most cases, REMY hair. REMY hair is hair that is cut and processed with all the strands facing the same direction (like the hair on your head) so that it is smooth to touch, tangle free and realistically shiny. REMY hair can be treated like real hair; it can be heat styled and coloured and also lasts longer than synthetic hair.

Synthetic hair appears a little too shiny (like dolls hair) and can't be coloured or heat treated. The easiest way to tell? Expose the hair to a flame and if it's real hair it will singe (and smell like the time you got too close to a bon fire) and curl up. Synthetic hair will melt like plastic.
